Palate to Palette, with Shelly Eager at The James

  • The James 55 Main Street Essex, MA, 01929 United States (map)

Please join us on Thursday, June 26th at The James, Essex, for a unique evening that pairs dining with the artistry of pastel artist Shelly Eager.

“The ordinary… This applies not to my work, but to my subject. I strive to find the beauty in everyday scenes, everyday actions, everyday items. It is through the ordinary that I express the unusual. I am not drawn to scenes that everyone sees as beautiful and eye catching. I want my viewers to see that, if you look closely at all things, therein lie the colors, expressions and movements that are beautiful, even extraordinary.

I prefer to crop in close or view my subject from a different angle, offering a unique point of view. I study the colors I see and exaggerate them to express the excitement I feel from them. Through my choice of subject and colors I attempt to elicit memories in the viewer. I want them to say “I remember this from my childhood” “those colors really make me feel the scene, the object, the emotion”.

I want my viewer and my art to connect, to feel camaraderie, to feel intimate. We all have our memories, and surprisingly they are quite similar... they just have different details. I want my viewers to complete my paintings with their own details. This is my ultimate goal.”
