Loren Doucette lives in Gloucester, MA working as a full-time painter. Her work has shown in solo and group exhibitions since 2006. She received a BFA in Drawing and Painting in 2013 from Montserrat College of Art where she participated in Montserrat’s study-abroad program in Italy. It was there that landscape painting became a stabilizing force in her work. Using Oil, Acrylic, Pastel and Gouache, her work includes architectural landscapes unique to Gloucester’s harbor, vibrant floral paintings, emotional figurative work and abstractions that come from the bones of all three subjects. Her paintings are prayers hovering between realism and abstraction and celebrate the sun, flowers, people and color of this world. Her work can be viewed at her gallery seven days a week from June to January where she offers art mentoring and classes during the winter months. Seven Suns Gallery offers her original artwork, giclee prints and a large assortment of her greeting cards. All of Loren’s work can also be viewed and purchased on her website and online store.

Palate to Palette, with Jason Burroughs at C.K. Pearl, Essex, MA
Nothing like summer, food and art on the river! Please join us for the next Palate to Palette dinner on Thursday, August 15th, from 5pm-8pm at C.K. Pearl, in Essex, MA. Enjoy a delicious meal and watch Jason Burroughs, a local artist and plein air painter, paint!
Jason Christopher Burroughs is an oil painter, born in Gloucester, Massachusetts, home of one of America’s oldest art colonies. His landscapes and marine paintings are inspired by the impressionists that frequented Cape Ann in the early 1900’s. He aims to carry on the tradition of plein-air painters capturing the picturesque beauty of Gloucester, while telling a story of his life’s travels and experiences along the way.
Jason was also the first prize winner at Cape Ann Plein Air’s Motif Day no 1 Paint-Out Invitational in May, 2024, a day in Rockport hosted by the Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce.
“My paintings and sketches are approximate, recorded observations of the people, places and things around me that I find inviting, or appealing. From my own unique perspective, familiar scenes and motifs are commemorated in my work. I discover compositions in nature, or design them in studio, with the intent of celebrating the subject matter. Using a limited palette, my colors are developed never planned, and more consideration is put into the tonal values of a painting maintaining an atmospheric quality. I enjoy the process of building a painting, the search for balance in a design or drawing leads me to decisions on mark making that I wouldn’t have made otherwise. My brushstrokes and application arrive from the study, and my appreciation for a piece of work that shows evidence of its creation. “

Palate to Palette, with Leigh Slingluff at The Cut, Gloucester, MA
Celebrate the beginning of summer by joining us for our next Palate to Palette dinner on Wednesday, July 17th from 5pm-8pm at The Cut, in Gloucester, MA. Enjoy a delicious meal and watch Leigh Slingluff, a local artist and plein air painter, paint!
“Hi! I’m Leigh Slingluff, I live in Rockport, and I have a painting studio in Gloucester at West Main Studios. I grew up in Georgia and moved to MA with my husband, two sons, and a dog in 2011. I have a BFA in graphic design, so I’ve always been designing - good design is the foundation of my painting process. My interest in painting started in college and then grew out of my exposure to the painting community around Cape Ann. I've taken many classes with local artists, which helped me discover “my people & my passion” - the many great painters, art teachers, historians, & collectors who I admire and seek to emulate.Painting outside with friends is a favorite activity, and I love the freshness and quickness of a plein air effort. When the weather is bad, I’m lucky to have my studio, where I paint from photos or memory, and I do commissions there, too. I paint in various mediums, including: oil & gouache (plein air), and acrylic & watercolor (in studio). I’m inspired by local folks doing local activities - for example: kids in summertime at the quarries, winter surfers, or people walking dogs on the beach. I’m attracted to light & shadow, big shapes & high contrast, glowing colors. I look for design elements like repetition, symmetry, pattern, contrast, etc.
My work is displayed with juried members in the galleries of the Rockport Art Association and the North Shore Arts Association. You can also see my paintings at Coastal Locals, a new collaborative gallery located in Rockport at 2 Dock Square, with a great view of that famous red fishing shack.”

Joli enjoys working both in the studio and out of doors on location. Favorite subjects include the rugged coastline of New England, the mountains and rural landscapes of Southwestern Virginia, as well as the striking Desert Southwest. While painting "en plein air," her aim is to capture the shapes, colors, and light quickly...most times within a couple of hours. Joli finds inspiration in the luminous works of Fitz Henry Lane, the abstract modernity of Georgia O’Keeffe’s paintings, the moody, light-filled works by Ed Hopper, as well as contemporary plein air painters of California and the West.
In 2019 she moved to the North Shore of Boston, Massachusetts from Virginia, where she captures the beauty around her, en plein air, and contining her work in the healing arts.
After some time in her own gallery in Rockport, MA, October 2023 brought the relocation of her studio from Rockport just south to the coastal Village of Beverly Farms. A stand alone, charming cottage is now Joli’s main creation and teaching space.

“To give beauty” paraphrases my middle name and reflects the aspiration for my art. Based in Gloucester, I participate in local art events and have exhibited in Cape Ann and the Boston region. After a graduate degree in art history and languages, I shifted to a career as a physician. I became a medical faculty member and university administrator. I am now expanding my visually creative side, painting mainly in oils that encompass plein air (outdoor landscapes), portraits, figures, and florals.
